Alabama Football's Historic 3.29 GPA Under Kalen DeBoer Catches Attention
After winning six national titles during his illustrious college football career at Alabama, head coach Nick Saban opted to step down following the 2023 season.
Enter former Washington head coach Kalen DeBoer, who took the Huskies to the national title game just a few weeks before departing to become the new head coach of the Crimson Tide. His first season didn't exactly go as those in the state of Alabama would have hoped, with the Tide going 9-3 during the regular season only to lose to a Michigan team in the ReliaQuest Bowl, without many of its starters.
During his entire tenure with the Tide, Saban only lost four or more games one time - his first season. DeBoer might not have had the success Alabama fans have become accustomed to in Year 1, but he did do something Saban never has.
On Monday, May 12, Alabama announced its Academic Progress Rate of 998, which was the highest in the SEC and the second-highest in the country. The team's cumulative GPA of 3.29 was also the highest in program history with 103 players on the team earning above a 3.0.

The achievement wasn't missed by fans, who applauded the team's hard work.
"Congratulations gentlemen! As much as i uncontrollably LOVE winning SEC & national championships... as a parent myself, this genuinely makes me as proud as anything. All this after the transition that came with soooo many distractions and opportunities for young men to lose focus," one person said.
"We saw how many UA players were drafted or signed as undrafted free agents and we celebrate those achievements. These academic statistics are so important for every single Alabama athlete. It makes me so proud of our athletes and the academic goals they achieve," added another.
"That’s the Bama standard on and off the field," added a third.
DeBoer and the Tide might have had a down season, but responded well in the offseason thus far.
