BBC Breakfast star reveals future on sofa and says job is a ‘rollercoaster’ after taking over from show favourite
A POPULAR BBC Breakfast star has revealed his future on the famous sofa, after taking over from a show favourite.
Jon Kay, 55, has been a part of BBC Breakfast since 2009, however he got his big break on the show when Dan Walker left.
The journalist is now one of the anchors on the Beeb’s flagship morning show, after Dan quit in 2022.
Jon has now given an update on his job – which sees him co-host Monday to Wednesday alongside Sally Nugent, 53.
The popular presenter revealed he has no plans to retire from BBC Breakfast anytime soon.
Speaking at last night’s BAFTA TV awards, where BBC Breakfast won the news coverage gong for its Post Office Special, he was asked how long he sees himself hosting the show.
“I’ve no idea. All I know is I’m not doing it tomorrow! I’ve got tomorrow off after this,” Jon told the Daily Star.
He added: “I love it, I’ve been doing it, what, two year, Sunday night? I seriously love getting up every morning and doing it.”
Jon previously admitted that he has FIVE cups of coffee to keep him awake in the studio, due to the early starts.
“I’ve gone so far with coffee that I think I would sleep less and feel worse if I didn’t have it,” he told viewers.
BECOMING A BBC BREAKFAST STAR
Jon got his big break when it was announced in July 2022 that he would become the main presenter of BBC Breakfast.
Before that, he was a fill-in host for when the regular presenters were off.
But Jon got his dream job when he took over the role from Dan, who left after six years in the job, for a position at Channel 5 News.
Announcing the news at the time, Jon said: “So delighted to share this news and join the outstanding @BBCBreakfast team full time.
“An absolute honour to front the UK’s number one morning show with my mates @sallynugent @TVNaga01 and Charlie (and his new cat!)”
