Financial expert dismisses Man United’s crisis amid transfer concerns

Manchester United must overhaul their squad this summer to allow manager Ruben Amorim to sign players who fit his tactical demands.

However, concerns remain over the club’s financial strength, casting doubt on their ability to spend heavily on players.

United’s spending power is expected to hinge on offloading forwards Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Jadon Sancho. Their sales could generate around £105 million.

The departures of Casemiro, Christian Eriksen, Jonny Evans, and Victor Lindelof would also help reduce the wage bill.

There is also a belief that United must secure Champions League qualification—by winning the Europa League—to enable significant spending in the summer transfer window.

Financial expert Kieran Maguire agrees that Champions League qualification is crucial but insists that United are not in financial distress.

He told the Overlap: “The Champions League is transformative because of its guaranteed revenue. For United, sponsor bonuses also kick in alongside that iconic Champions League anthem.

“Their commercial department would be in a strong position to negotiate new deals once the group stage begins. So, securing qualification should be the club’s primary focus for the rest of the season.

“As for their spending power, people seem to forget that Man United spent £251m this season, which has gone largely unnoticed.

“They are not in financial trouble, despite what Sir Jim Ratcliffe has suggested. His comments about running out of money by Christmas were for the cameras. United remain a massive brand and an attractive destination for players.”

Regardless of United’s financial standing, Ratcliffe must back Amorim in the transfer market to give him the best chance of success at Old Trafford.

While the club must avoid spending extravagantly to avoid breaching the Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), the squad needs to be bolstered adequately to succeed next season.
