State of Kansas tax collections $13M below estimate
TOPEKA (KSNT) - The Kansas Department of Revenue (KDOR) shared on Tuesday that state tax collections were $13.6 million below expected.
The State of Kansas collected $636.9 million in March, according to the KDOR. That figure was 2.1% below the estimate and 16.2% below the 2024 March collections.
Income taxes:
- Individual Income Tax
- Collected $261.6 million, down 1.3% from the estimate.
- Corporate Income Tax
- Collected $50.1 million, down 34.9% from the estimate.
- Financial Institutions Tax
- Collected $6.7 million, up 273.1% from the estimate.
Sales & Use Taxes
- Retail Sales Tax
- Collected $181.6 million, down 4.4% from the estimate.
- Compensating Use Tax
- Collected $65.2 million, up 0.4% from the estimate.
Other Taxes
- Cigarette Tax
- Collected $6.49 million, almost no change.
- Liquor Gallonage Tax
- Collected $2 million, up 3% from the estimate.
- Liquor Enforcement Tax
- Collected $5.9 million, down 7.7% from the estimate.
- Liquor Drink Tax
- Collected $1.16 million, down 10.4% from the estimate.
- Oil Severance Tax
- Collected $2.6 million, up 14.6% from the estimate.
A group comprised of KDOR, the Division of Budget, the Legislative Research Department and economists from the University of Kansas, Kansas State University and Wichita State University will meet on April 17 to review the fall numbers. You can view the March 2025 report by clicking here.
