Urgent recall of popular holiday crisps found in UK supermarkets over allergy fears
A ‘do not eat’ warning has been issued for a popular crisp brand over an allergen mix-up.
Fans of Ruffles Sabor a Jamon Crisps will be disappointed to know there’s a recall due to unlabelled allergens, which could be life-threatening to some.
The product contains milk and soya, which was not disclosed in English on the packaging. The areas affected are in Northern Ireland and Scotland.
Anyone who bought the popular crisps and suffers from an allergy is being urged to not eat the product, and instead, return it to the store where it was bought for a refund.
‘This product contains milk and soya making it a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents and/or an allergy to soya,’ the FSA said.
The recall affects the 150g packages – and covers all batch codes and all best-before dates.
It comes just days after a popular cheese was recalled over fears some blocks were contaminated with Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC).
About 100,000 STEC bacteria can rest on the head of a needle – but only 50 are needed to make you sick enough to possibly die.
The virus can cause diarrhoea, stomach cramps, fever and, in extreme cases, life-threatening kidney problems and death.
Isle of Mull Cheese, a dairy farm on the Scottish island of the same name, has recalled its Hebridean Blue Cheese after tests revealed contamination with STEC.
Lidl also issued a recall for a brand of BBQ pork scratchings due to possible salmonella contamination.
The food recall affects Sol & Mar Chicharricos BBQ Pork Scratchings sold in 100g packages.
This applies to products with best-before dates ranging from August 5, 2025, through to August 12, 2025.
A food recall is when potential contamination is identified in a product.
The affected product or products are then withdrawn from shelves and recalled from customers when there is a possible risk to consumer health.
It is the FSA that oversees this.
