J.J. Spaun has the full support of his wife, Melody, whom he married in 2019, as he competes in the playoff round of The Player's Championship, facing off against Rory McIlory. However, the Spauns tend to keep their relationship private — and off of social media.
Melody has attended various championship games in support of her husband, but didn't really have much interest in golf when they first started dating. The duo met through mutual friends, according to Golf Monthly, and their first date had a bit of awkwardness to it.
"I was like, ‘Yeah, I'm a pro golfer,’ because I thought I was cool. But she's like, ‘I don't even know. What does that mean? Like, does that mean you're like rich or something?’ I was like, ‘No.’ And she's like, ‘I don't really care.’ And I was like, ‘All right.’ And we went like mini golfing or something and she's like, ‘This is lame,'" J.J. recalled.
Things ended up working out, however, and the two have been together ever since. Of course, Melody's interest in the sport has greatly increased and she even caddied for him during the Par 3 Contest during Masters week. But that doesn't mean that Melody is out giving interviews and posting non-stop on social media.
Melody does have Instagram, but her account is private. And her husband's Instagram feed is filled with golf-related posts, with her appearing only a handful of times.
In 2021, J.J. penned a tribute to his wife on Mother's Day.
"Happy Mother’s Day to the best mom in the world! Thank you for all you do for our little family. Miss you tons," he captioned a photo of Melody and the couple's daughter, Emerson, who was born in 2020.
Melody hasn't been featured on her husband's feed since 2022.
