Tamworth host Premier League Tottenham in the FA Cup in what’s undoubtedly the biggest “David vs Goliath” encounter of the weekend.

Tamworth, managed by Andy Peaks, have been on something of a fairytale journey beating Macclesfield, Huddersfield Town and Burton Albion to reach the third round.

Just reaching this stage has earned the National League side a £250,000 windfall, but beating their top-flight opponents would be priceless.

They have reached this stage, three times before in fact, although their only previous FA Cup game against a top-flight side came in the third round in 2011-12, losing 2-0 against David Moyes’ Everton.

Meanwhile eight-time FA Cup winners Tottenham last tasted success in the competition back in 1991.

They have, however, progressed from 17 of their last 18 FA Cup third round ties, with the only exception being a 2-0 defeat at Arsenal in 2013-14. They’ve also progressed from each of their last nine FA Cup ties against non-league opponents.

Spurs also arrive with confidence sky high having ended a four-game winless run (L3, D1) by beating Premier League leaders Liverpool in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg on Wednesday.

Ange Postecoglou showed faith in his youthful stars and they delivered in style with teenager Lucas Bergvall and new goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky looking particularly impressive.

Spurs supporters will hope they don’t lurch from the sublime to the ridiculous by suffering their first FA Cup tie defeat against a non-league opponent in over 100 years.
