Where in the world is Sing Sing? And Denzel Washington, for that matter? And are Angelina Jolie‘s Oscar chances now dead? Awards Magnet hosts Christopher Rosen and Joyce Eng discussed the 2025 Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations live after the announcement.
Wicked and A Complete Unknown led the way with five and four nominations, including best ensemble bids alongside Anora, Conclave, and Emilia Pérez. The big snub was Sing Sing, which was fourth in the odds. Six months ago, most people had Sing Sing winning this award. Now, it’s not even nominated. The A24 drama only earned one nomination for lead Colman Domingo as supporting actor Clarence Maclin was also snubbed. This is a copy-paste of its poor showing at the Golden Globes. With its paths to a Best Picture Oscar nomination narrowing, can Sing Sing recover?
Meanwhile, two months ago, former Bone Collector co-stars Denzel Washington and Angelina Jolie seemed safe for SAG nominations for Gladiator II and Maria, respectively. But they were MIA on Tuesday. Jolie’s snub is less surprising following tell-tale signs that she was weak in the race: She’s had very few nominations from critics groups, missed the BAFTA longlist, and lost the Golden Globe for Best Drama Actress on Sunday. But Washington, the consensus MVP of Gladiator II, appeared to be the sole above-the-line survivor of the Ridley Scott sequel. And SAG felt like an easy get for him with his legendary status and a blockbuster film. So how did he miss?
Plus, there are TV nominations. And Is there an alphabetical advantage at SAG?
