Hibs Women return to action following the winter break by hosting Spartans this weekend.
Our first match of 2025 takes place at Meadowbank Stadium; with kick-off at 4pm on Sunday 12 January.
The Lowdown
The Hibees head into the new year off the back of a superb eight-game unbeaten run in the ScottishPower Women's Premier League - sealing six wins and drawing twice since the start of October 2024.
2024 ended in spectacular fashion, with Grant Scott's side putting on a show at the Albert Bartlett Stadium against a Rangers side that had previously only been defeated once domestically this season.
Kathleen McGovern opened the scoring after just five minutes after capitilising on a moment of hesitation at the back from the Rangers defence, before curling in a long-range scorcher that subsequently won our December 2024 Christophe Duchamp Women's Goal of the Month award.
Tegan Bowie started to make her 50th Hibernian appearance and was joined in reaching the same feat by substitute Rosie Livingstone, who proceeded to fire home with her first touch on 84 minutes to ensure all three points were heading back to EH7.
The memorable away victory kept Hibs in fourth place. Third-place Hearts and second-place Rangers remain two and three points ahead of us, respectively - though we have a game in hand over both clubs.
Ahead of Sunday's match, our attacking line is bolstered by the return of Lia Tweedie from her short-term loan spell at Glasgow City.
The Visitors
Spartans suffered a winless end to 2024 in the league after taking just one point from a possible 12 to end the year against undeaniably tough opposition.
The difficult run of fixtures included defeats to Glasgow City, Hearts and Celtic, as well as a score draw versus Partick Thistle. Fortunately, to break up the harsh streak, the Ainslie Park outfit defeated Glenrothes Strollers in the Scottish Cup Third Round.
Jack Beesley's side currently sit eighth in the ScottishPower Women's Premier League standings, having taken 14 points from 17 games this season.
The Hibees faced off against Spartans in October 2024 in the reverse fixture. Eilidh Adams bagged a hat-trick and Michaela McAlonie slammed home from close-range to secure a 4-0 away victory for the Hibees on the day.
Versatile wing-back Mya Christie has joined Spartans on loan until the end of the season but will not be eligible to play against the Hibees on Sunday.
