Six days in and 2025 is already shaping up to be a make-or-break year for celebrity couples. On Monday, tennis star Naomi Osaka announced that she and rapper Cordae, her boyfriend of six years and the father of her daughter, Shai, had gone their separate ways. The 27-year-old shared the news to her Instagram Story, confirming that she and the rapper “are no longer in a relationship.” “No bad blood at all, he’s a great person and an awesome dad,” Osaka wrote. “Honestly really glad our paths crossed because my daughter is my biggest blessing and I was able to grow a lot from our experiences together.” As far as high-profile breakups go, this sounds very mature. Good for them.

The former couple went public with their relationship back in 2019 and announced in 2023 that they were expecting their first child together. Baby Shai was born later that year in July. After taking some time off from tennis owing to mental-health struggles and a maternity break, Osaka is back to her regular grind. On Sunday, the four-time Grand Slam champion made her first WTA-final appearance in three years at the ASB Classic, only to retire mid-match because of an abdominal injury. Despite the setback, Osaka told press in a statement that she feels “very optimistic” she’ll be able to compete at the Australian Open this week as planned.
