NYC prosecutors ask judge to ignore Trump's latest demand in hush money case
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg responded to Donald Trump's demand to stay the sentencing hearing on Monday after the deadline set by the Trump legal team.
The president-elect's lawyers asked Judge Juan Merchan to stay the sentencing by 2 p.m. EST on Monday, Jan. 6, 2025, or they will take his demands to the appeals court.
Bragg encouraged the court to deny Trump's request to vacate the sentencing. They further said, "Nor should the Court grant a stay as a matter of its discretionary authority."

Bragg explained that Trump's "appeals do not automatically stay this case." He also pointed out that Trump is "unlikely to succeed on the merits of his interlocutory appeals."
In his filing, Trump claimed that, given the Supreme Court's ruling, he has absolute immunity and that the jury's verdict should be vacated. Legal analysts have said his reasoning is flawed, as Trump isn't president, nor was he president when the alleged crimes were committed.
Trump's filing also said the sentencing can't move forward because, as a president-elect, he enjoys the same rules as an existing president. Legal analysts also noted that the law doesn't uphold that assertion.
