A WOMAN has died and a two-year-old toddler is fighting for his life after a car smashed into a tree in a horror crash.
The 34-year-old driver, who only suffered minor injuries, was arrested at the scene on the M180 at Barnetby on suspicion of being unfit through drink.
A black Mitsubishi Outlander skewed off the road before smashing into the tree before 11.15am on the M180 at Barnetby between junctions four and five, according to cops.
A 29-year-old woman and toddler, 2, were taken to hospital to receive treatment for life-threatening injuries.
The woman tragically died in the early hours of Monday morning as a result of her injuries, according to emergency services.
The child remains in a critical condition at this time.
He remains in police custody.
Cops are now appealing for information and are urging anyone who was in the area at the time of the horror crash or who has dashcam footage, to get in touch.
A spokesperson for Humberside Police said: “We would appeal for anyone who may have been in the area around the time of the collision, who has dashcam footage or witnessed the collision and has not yet spoken to us, to contact us on our non-emergency number 101 quoting log 158 of 5 January.”
