This is one accessory that is available in all price ranges, from a few bucks to millions. The collection of expensive watches is a decades-old trend, and wealthy individuals buy expensive watches to create exclusive collections. Recently, Anant Ambani, son of one of the world’s richest men, Mukesh Ambani, made headlines for showcasing his luxury watch to Meta chief Mark Zuckerberg during his marriage celebrations.
Anant is famous for his passion for expensive timepieces. Recently, he made headlines for sporting a watch worth Rs. 22 crore during an outing. Crafted by luxury watchmaker Richard Mille, the RM 52-04 Skull Blue Sapphire is one of only three pieces ever made. The watch’s unique design resembles an ice cube.
However, this extraordinary watch is nothing in comparison to the world’s most expensive timepieces.
In 2014, London-based jewellery company Graff Diamonds unveiled a masterpiece at Baselworld. Designed by the company’s founder Laurence Graff, the exclusive watch features approx 110 carats of rare glittery diamonds.
More than 30 designers, gemmologists, and artisans spent hours creating this masterpiece. The price of the world’s most expensive watch is USD 55 million (approx Rs 456 crore).
A year later, Graff Diamonds introduced “The Fascination,” a masterpiece that can transform into a ring. The watch is adorned with 152.96 carats of white diamonds. The price of the watch is Rs 331 crore, making it the second most expensive watch in the world.
Vintage watches carry their own historical significance. Princess Diana’s Cartier Tank Française watch, kept by her son Prince Harry, later became a gift to Meghan Markle. Another piece, actor Paul Newman’s Rolex Paul Newman Daytona was auctioned for Rs. 140 crore in 2017.
Anant is also a collector of rare and luxury timepieces. In his collection, he has, Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime, valued at over Rs. 18 crore. Anant’s recent watch, the Richard Mille RM 52-04 Skull Blue Sapphire, was priced at Rs. 22 crore.
