AMAZON billionaire Jeff Bezos is set to launch a new satellite broadband service in Britain.
Project Kuiper could be operational this year.
Amazon told communications regulator Ofcom it wants increased access to Britain’s radio waves “over the next one to two years” as it “expands the capabilities of its first-generation system”.
The tech giant also said it believed Project Kuiper was “uniquely suited to reach hard-to-serve areas within the UK”.
It aims to target businesses and government contracts.
Blue Origin, the rocket business owned by Bezos, is contracted to launch dozens of satellites.
The move puts Bezos in competition with fellow billionaire Elon Musk, whose Starlink broadband network has 87,000 customers in Britain.
Musk previously called Bezos a copycat.
Last year The U.S. Sun revealed that Bezos and Lauren Sanchez were getting ready to marry in an “extravagant” Aspen ceremony with their A-list friends during winter.
An insider exclusively told The U.S. Sun that Bezos and Sanchez, 54, have been quietly planning their star-studded wedding.
He was previously married to Mackenzie Scott, and they share four children together.
Scott is worth approximately $30 billion and has given away two-thirds of her wealth to charity.
