CLOVIS, New Mexico: Authorities in Curry County, New Mexico, are investigating a mechanical failure at the Southwest Cheese manufacturing plant that caused toxic fumes to sicken 20 workers.
According to the Curry County Sheriff's Office, a chemical reaction occurred when acid was mixed with chlorine, releasing harmful fumes. More than a dozen workers were taken to local hospitals by ambulance and private vehicle
