ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- After a significant police presence on Lawn Avenue in Menands on Friday, a man is in police custody. Police arrested Jorr Norgaisse, 22, of Menands, for allegedly fleeing a traffic stop and crashing into a utility pole.
The single-car crash happened around 10:30 p.m. State Police said the vehicle that crashed into the utility pole was stopped on North Pearl Street in Albany at 10:07 p.m. for traffic and law violations.
Troopers said they stopped the vehicle near Loudonville Road, but the driver fled when the Trooper approached the vehicle. Because of reckless driving and public safety concerns, Troopers avoided pursuing the car.
Law enforcement found the crashed vehicle a short time later and pursued the driver and passenger on foot. Troopers said they identified Norgaisse as the driver and learned the passenger had an active arrest warrant from the Cohoes Police Department, to which Troopers turned the passenger over.
Norgaisse was processed at the State Police barracks in Latham on second-degree reckless endangerment, second-degree obstructing governmental administration, and traffic and law violations. He was issued an appearance ticket for Albany City Court on Wednesday, January 22, and released.
