It’s not every day you hear a male celebrity talk about family planning. No, those incredibly personal questions are usually (and infuriatingly) reserved for female celebrities. So we were shocked when Tom Holland opened up about family planning during his cover interview with Men’s Health. When talking about his career, Holland was insistent about the 180 he would take “when” (notably not “if”) he has kids.
“When I have kids, you will not see me in movies anymore,” the Marvel actor said. Instead, he will, ya know, be a dad. And he’ll do what is largely considered a basic requirement of fatherhood; He will play golf.
“Golf and dad,” he said. “And I will just disappear off the face of the earth.”
Aww! We would hate to lose Spider-Man, but we would be so happy for Holland to “disappear off the face of the earth” into Dad World if that’s what he really wants.
His comments about parenthood sound a lot like his girlfriend Zendaya’s, and it’s nice to see when couples are aligned on family planning. (Even if that planning is not imminent.) In an interview with British Vogue, the Challengers star said she doesn’t want her hypothetical kids to have to “deal with” the lack of privacy that comes with her celebrity.
In her ideal future, she would be able to “make things and pop out when I need to pop out, and then have a safe and protected life with my family, and not be worried that if I’m not delivering something all the time, or not giving all the time, that everything’s going to go away.”
It doesn’t sound like she wants to go Full Holland and “disappear off the face of the earth,” but like she’d want to take a step back from the spotlight for the sake of her family. Once again, we’d hate to not see Zendaya as often if and when she starts a family, but we understand her wanting to maintain her kids’ privacy. It’s something a lot of celebrity parents take seriously, and for good reason.
The only thing that remains to be seen is whether Zendaya — if she and Holland were to welcome kids together — would also be heading to the green.
