PHIL TAYLOR’S breathtaking score of 240 has resurfaced on social media… 31 years after it took place.
The 16-time world champion is widely regarded as the sport‘s greatest ever player, achieving records such as 11 televised nine-darters and an overall tally of 85 major titles.
Yet one of his lesser known feats came back in 1993 when he hit 240 with just three darts.
Regular scoring dictates that the highest score a player can achieve in one visit is 180 – three treble 20s.
However, at the 1993 UK Matchplay in Chesterfield, a special “Quadro” board was introduced.
The difference was an extra ring was located between the bullseye and the treble ring which allowed players to score quadruples.
This meant Taylor and opponent Jockey Wilson could hit 240 with three quadruple 20s – something the darts icon managed with expert precision.
The commentator was left in awe as the announcer screamed “240” and the crowd applauded in amazement.
The “Quadro” board was discontinued in 2000 and has not returned in a professional event.

It is understood players, referees and announcers became confused by the scoring.
Yet 2025 is set to see it make a comeback in a different form – with designers giving it “a more modern take on the classic”.
The new board will allow players to hit an eight-dart finish from a 501 start.
Reacting to the historic clip of Taylor, one fan said: “Guy is a legend.”
Another added: “Why have we never seen this before?”
A third replied: “Quadruple! Sounds like the something the Americans would do.”
While a fourth responded: “Super random.”
The 2025 World Darts Championship final takes place at Ally Pally on Friday night as last year’s runner-up Luke Littler takes on three-time champion Michael van Gerwen.
