KANSAS (KSNT) - Kansas casinos reported record levels of gaming revenue in 2023 following the recent legalization of sports betting.
Sports betting was legalized in Kansas before the start of the 2022 NFL season. Following the legalization, Kansas casinos raked in $588.3 million in gaming revenue in 2023. Sports betting doubled from $76.5 million in 2022 to $182.4 million in 2023, according to a report from the American Gaming Association (AGA).
Overall, casino revenue grew by 23% from 2022 to 2023. Kansas was ranked as the second-highest growth in sports betting by Props.com. In 2023, sports betting accounted for 31% of total betting revenue, according to the AGA report.
With casinos statutorily required to pay a minimum tax rate of 27% on table games and electronic gaming devices, Kansas casinos paid approximately $128.9 million in taxes, a 16.6% increase over the year prior.
