NEW YORK (PIX11) – The MTA is reminding drivers to update their E-ZPass accounts before congestion pricing starts this weekend.
The toll goes into effect on Jan. 5. Drivers entering Manhattan at and below 60th Street will pay a $9 toll once a day between the hours of 5 a.m. and 9 p.m. on weekdays.
But those without an E-ZPass account will be charged 50% more, according to the MTA. That means instead of the original $9 toll, you could be forced to pay $13.50.
People with an out-of-state E-ZPass that's linked to their license plate will also be charged the once-daily $9 toll, the MTA said.
Congestion pricing isn't the only toll going into effect in New York City on Jan. 5. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is increasing the cost to drive on its bridges and tunnels that Sunday, with a $14.06 toll charged to drivers entering the Big Apple.
