Liverpool attacker Darwin Nunez has only managed to score two goals in the Premier League this season in 14 outings.
The Uruguayan attacker has struggled to perform for Arne Slot’s side this season. He has received numerous opportunities to play this season because of injuries to other attackers.
However, the Dutch manager has still been unable to get the best out of him this season, despite improving the performance level of other players at Anfield.
The Premier League leaders are now looking to replace him and sign a prolific attacker at the club.
According to a report in Teamtalk, the Premier League giants are monitoring Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak and Inter Milan attacker Marcus Thuram to replace the struggling Nunez at Anfield.
Both the attackers are enjoying fine seasons at their club and interest from Liverpool in their services is not a surprise.
Liverpool staff keen to seal ambitious transfer raid
Isak has scored 12 Premier League goals this season in 17 appearances for Eddie Howe’s side while Thuram has managed to find the net 12 times in 18 Serie A outings for the Italian champions.
Addition of Isak or Thuram would strengthen the Liverpool attack and add a lethal presence in front of goal for them. It would give them another option, apart from Mohamed Salah, to score goals.
The report has mentioned that Liverpool are put off by the high valuation of Newcastle United’s Isak.
The Magpies reportedly want a record fee for their striker and the Reds are reluctant to pay that.
Signing an attacker like Isak or Thuram in the January transfer window would be highly difficult for the Merseyside club. They would have to wait till the summer transfer window in order to make such a big move.
Financially, the Reds are in a great position to spend money considering they did not spend much in the summer transfer window last year.
Serie A giants AC Milan have been linked with a move for Nunez.
