If Serena Williams is your mom, chances are you are going to grow up sporty. Just look at her 7-year-old daughter Olympia, who is interested in everything from golfing to dancing. Now, the 23-time Grand Slam Champion’s 16-month-old daughter Adira seems to have caught the athletic bug, as she just reached a big sports milestone alongside her famous mama.
“Is there a too early?” the retired tennis champion captioned a post on TikTok recently. The photo includes three photos of Adira playing tennis with her mama! The baby girl looks adorable in a white striped dress with brown leggings and white tennis shoes. Her mom helps her hold a racket in her little hand, dressed in an all-black athletic attire with pink socks. In the second photo, Williams drops a yellow tennis ball with one hand as she helps Adira aim for it with her other hand.
Clearly the little girl loved it because the last photo has Adira clapping with pure joy after hitting the balls, which lie on the court around her. Her mouth is wide open in a grin as she claps and walks around the court, seemingly impressed with her own ability to hit a tennis ball for the first time. (There’s obviously not a “too early” in this case!)
Although this seems to be Adira’s first time hitting a tennis ball with a racket, it’s not her first time on the court. Back in November, the Wyn Beauty founder shared a video of her baby girl on a tennis court. At one point, Adira picks up a tennis ball and instead of putting it in the basket her mom is holding, she turns and throws it at the wall before running off. “She was doing it, now we turn the camera she don’t wanna do it,” Williams laments.
Alexis Ohanian, Williams’ husband and Olympia and Adira’s dad, jokingly commented, “She better be doing her drills…”
In reality, though, Ohanian and Williams seem to be doing their best to encourage their daughters to follow their own passions. The Reddit co-founder told PEOPLE last year about his and Williams’ eldest daughter, “Like any parent, we just want her to have fun, and we’re fortunate enough to be able to expose her to anything she could be interested in.” Ohanian added, “It’s already been an interesting journey, seeing the stuff she’s into. We don’t want to limit that.”
As for Williams, she might like playing with her daughters, but she isn’t planning on being their official tennis coach anytime soon. “I don’t have the patience to teach tennis,” Williams said on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2022. “It’s so weird, but I don’t really like to play with people who don’t know how to play tennis well. It drives me nuts,” she laughed. Fair enough!
