ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Capital Region CEOs will be teaming up once again with the American Red Cross for the Capital Region Blood Challenge starting on Tuesday. In its fourth year, the challenge highlights the need for blood donations in the new year.
This year’s Capital Region Blood Challenge will be held as a series of blood drives from Dec. 31 through Jan. 7 at the 33 Everett Road Red Cross Chapter in Albany. The participating CEOs will engage in a friendly competition as they try to encourage the most people to donate blood.
Each donor will be able to vote for their recruiting company. The goal is to collect more than 142 units of blood throughout the challenge.

A running tally of votes will be shared on the Red Cross of Eastern New York’s social media platforms, and the winner will be awarded the Blood Challenge trophy. Companies sponsoring the challenge include Albany Med Health System, National Grid, M&T Bank, and Sunmark Credit Union.
To schedule an appointment to donate blood, visit the American Red Cross website and use the sponsor code “Blood Challenge,” or call 1-800-RED CROSS. Any donors who give blood between Jan. 1 and Jan. 26 will be automatically entered for a chance to win a trip to Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans.
