MIAMI, Okla. (KFOR) - The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is looking into an officer-involved shooting that happened in Miami on December 27.
Officials say Miami Police officers responded to an apartment complex near C Street Southeast and First Avenue Southeast around 4 p.m. regarding a disturbance. Upon arrival, officers made contact with 49-year-old Jason Wilkins, who was holding a large metal spike.
Officers told Wilkins to drop the weapon multiple times but he did not. He eventually ran towards one of the officers leading to an officer firing their weapon.
The OSBI says life-saving measures were performed by officers before Wilkins was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died.
No other injuries have been reported. The investigation is ongoing.
