The Times reporter Gary Jacob has revealed what the Spurs hierarchy’s assessment is about Ange Postecoglou’s work as the club continue to languish in the bottom half of the table.
There is one school of thought among Spurs fans, which is fast becoming a majority view. Results have been appalling for more than 12 months, which could be evidence that Postecoglou is not going to be able to turn things around.
The other school of thought is that injury issues have made Postecoglou’s job next to impossible and that things are not as dire as they may seem. After all, Tottenham are just eight points off fifth place and are in the semifinals of the Carabao Cup.
As always, the truth is somewhere in the middle, and one would presume that there is some concern among the Spurs top brass about the direction of the current project.
The Times reporter Gary Jacob has now said that despite the side’s continued struggles to string wins together, the Spurs decision-makers are not thinking about changing the head coach at the moment.
While Postecoglou still has the support of the higher-ups at the club, there is said to be an understanding that results would have to improve for this project to continue.
The Australian has asked the club to strengthen the squad in the transfer window and he is said to be confident that the players still back him and his style.
Daniel Levy and co are right to show patience and faith in Postecoglou as this is a long-term project and it will not make sense to abandon it at the first sight of trouble.
However, there is no doubt that some doubts would have started creeping in about the 59-year-old and he will not be able to count on the support of the club unless he manages to arrest the slide very swiftly.
