DARTS fans are used to seeing their favourite players turn to their left to celebrate a winning leg, but why do they do it?
It’s a familiar sight, one of the Tour’s superstars nailing a 180 and then turning to the left and giving it large.
And although it may seem like a pretty unusual thing to do, it turns out there’s three understandable reasons for the tungsten throwers’ habits.
Former PDC Tour Card holder and current WDF thrower Matthew Edgar gave fans an insight to why it happens on his TikTok.
Edgar, who previous played at Ally Pally in the 2021 World Championship, explained that the main reason for the turn is the cameras.
If players want to celebrate to the camera then they have to turn left, because that’s where they are positioned.
All the TV cameras are put up on the left hand side of the oche to get the best view of the board.
In fact, players are even told to collect their darts from the board and exit to the right to avoid getting in the way of the broadcast.
The second reason that players turn to the left is because that’s where their family and friends are sitting.
Players might want to shoot a glance or a celebration to their loved ones after a high-pressure moment and that would be the way to look to find them in the crowd.

And finally, the third reason for the left-side turn is that it’s the natural way for a right-handed thrower to turn into a celebration.
Given the stance that most players take at the oche, a right-handed player would feel unnatural turning back to their right given they are already rotating to the left side.
There’s already been plenty of big celebrations at the Palace over the festive period with the World Championship delivering huge excitement and big upsets.
World number one Luke Humphries was the latest big name to crash out the tournament after he fell to a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Peter Wright on Sunday.
