COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – Gas prices in the Columbus area took a dip during the holiday week of travel, though the average price will end the 2024 year above the $3 per gallon threshold.
According to GasBuddy’s survey of 500 stations in the Columbus area, the average price at the pump dropped by 11.7 cents per gallon last week to reach $3.08. The current price is identical to the average last month and 27.5 cents per gallon higher than this time one year ago.
The cheapest gas station in the Columbus area was priced at $2.64 a gallon on Sunday, while the most expensive was $3.39, a difference of 75 cents per gallon. In Ohio, the average price of gas also dropped by 13.2 cents from $3.11 per gallon to $2.98 per gallon.
Nationally, gas prices fell slightly, by 3.0 cents per gallon, to reach $2.98. The price of diesel dropped ever so slightly, by 0.5 cents, settling at $3.47 per gallon.
For a future look into what’s ahead in the new year, GasBuddy is expected to release its 2025 Fuel Price Outlook Tuesday. In the short term, head of petroleum analysis Patrick De Haan said he expects prices will remain stable throughout the country, with some fluctuation possible in the Great Lakes region.
