1. Former President Jimmy Carter dies at 100

Former President Carter, the unassuming Georgia peanut farmer whose improbable political rise took him to the governor’s mansion before the White House, died peacefully on Sunday in Plains, Ga., according to the Carter Center.

2. Lee Kindlon to be sworn in as Albany County DA

Albany County is swearing in a new county district attorney on Monday. Lee Kindlon’s swearing-in ceremony is at the Harold Joyce Albany County Office Building on State Street.

3. US children are struggling with reading — and so are adults

Learning to read can become exponentially more difficult for older students and adults who have fallen behind, creating grave concerns as the number of individuals struggling with literacy into high school and adulthood is increasing.  

4. Truck falls through ice on Pontoosuc Lake

Pittsfield Fire Department officials say no one was injured after a truck fell through the ice of Pontoosuc Lake on Saturday afternoon. The truck fell through near 261 Narragansett Ave.
