South Africa won over Pakistan by 2 wickets in the first Test at SuperSport Park in Centurion. With this victory in hand, the team became the first team to secure their spot in the 2025 World Test Championship (WTC) Final, leaving only one place left for the other teams to compete for.
As the team has 7 victories from the 11 games played, along with a points percentage of 66.67%, South Africa has easily made it to the top of the WTC rankings. Australia, India and Sri Lanka are the other contender for the final spot. India is at the third rank with 9 victories from 17 matches and a points percentage of 55.88.
If Indian team wishes to reach the WTC Finals without depending on the result of any of the other teams, they will have to beat Australia in the both the remaining two Tests of the current five-match series.
If India finishes the ongoing Test at Melbourne with a draw, and then go on to win the next Test in Sydney, the team will finish with a points percentage of 57.017%. If they wish to qualify, they have to wish for Australia to draw at least one match in their series against Sri Lanka, which will keep them at 55.26%.
Australia will have to win one match against Sri Lanka if they manage to draw both of the remaining two matches against India. In case Australia defeats India in both the matches, they will advance straight to the finals. Even two draws against Sri Lanka will result in them reaching the finals if they draw one and win the other match against India.
