Nitish Kumar Reddy was one of the standout performers of the IPL 2024 season, catching the selectors’ attention with his impressive display for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Reddy scored 303 runs and took 3 wickets in 13 matches, helping SRH reach the final. His stellar performance earned him a spot in Team India, and he was subsequently called up for the T20I series against Zimbabwe.
An injury prevented Nitish Kumar Reddy from traveling to Zimbabwe, but he was recalled for the Bangladesh series and also selected for the Australia Test series. Despite making his IPL debut in 2023, Nitish missed out on winning the IPL title as Sunrisers Hyderabad lost to Kolkata Knight Riders in this year’s final.
Nitish Kumar Reddy may not have been part of the playing XI in the IPL 2021 final, but he played an important role in Chennai Super Kings’ title win as a net bowler in the UAE. Net bowlers play a crucial role in the preparation of the team, and Nitish contributed to CSK’s success that year.
Nitish secured his maiden IPL contract when Sunrisers Hyderabad bought him at his base price of Rs 20 lakh in the IPL 2023 mini-auction, where he played 2 matches. In 2024, he became a regular in the playing XI, featuring in 13 matches. Ahead of the IPL 2025 mega-auction, SRH retained him for Rs 6 crore.
In the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Nitish has been India’s standout batter, accumulating 293 runs in six innings. He made his Test debut in Perth and started the series with scores of 41 and 38*. Nitish excelled in the pink-ball Test in Adelaide, scoring 84 runs. Although he was dismissed for 16 in the third Test, the team management showed confidence in him and kept him in the playing XI for the ongoing match. He repaid their faith with a brilliant century in the first innings, helping India reach a total of 369.
