India’s batting sensation Virat Kohli got heckled by fans during the second day of the ongoing fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). The ‘shoulder-bump’ incident with Australian opener Sam Konstas on the previous day worked as fuel to the bitter reaction from the Australian crowd/
The Melbourne Cricket Club CEO, Stuart Fox has now come up with a statement regarding the incident that involved Kohli getting heckled and booed by the crowd of the venue. Stuart confirmed that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) did not file any official complaint after the incident.
Kohli continuously faced boos as he went back to the dressing room after getting dismissed in the Boxing Day Test. The intense booing visibly frustrated Kohli, which caused him to turn around and engage in a verbal spat with the heckling fans.
After a mean reception from the crowd on his arrival at the crease, Kohli looked determined to silence his critics by giving a strong performance. However, he had a horrible mix-up with his opening partner Yashasvi Jaiswal that resulted in an unfortunate run-out of the star opener.
MCG CEO has given the confirmation that there had been no official complaint from India so far. Later he also ensured that he is going to make sure each and every person is well-behaved.
“You’re never comfortable when you’ve got fans heavily engaging with the player. As the operator, you are just always watching. I went and looked at the vision last night. I have been talking to security this morning. There has been no official complaint from India, they are comfortable,” Fox said while speaking to SEN Radio.
“I think a bit of heckling happened late and Kohli popped his head back. I’ll be concerned if it was abusive and (there is) any physical contact or abuse that is pushing the boundary. That’s where we are always making sure everyone is well-behaved,” Fox said.
Virat Kohli’s conduct on the field has been a major point of discussion through the whole fourth Test. On the opening day, he got engaged in a physical exchange with the 19-yera-old debutant Sam Konstas, which resulted in a shoulder-tap that led to a fine and a demerit point.
