UPDATE (1:49 p.m. ET): Patriots quarterback Drake Maye returned to the field against the Los Angeles Chargers at Gillette Stadium on Saturday.
Maye previously was ruled questionable to return after he suffered a head injury on the offense’s third play of the game. Maye entered the blue medical tent and walked back to the locker room before he apparently cleared the league’s concussion protocol.
Original story: FOXBORO, Mass. — Drake Maye is questionable to return after the Patriots quarterback suffered a head injury on the offense’s first possession against the Chargers.
Facing a third-and-4 at the New England 43-yard line with 10:25 left in the first quarter, Maye was hit by Chargers cornerback Cam Hart and spun to the ground. The play officially was ruled a 2-yard sack by linebacker Tuli Tuipulotu given Maye stepped out of bounds before he took the hit from Hart.

Maye stayed down for a few extra seconds before he eventually walked off. He entered the blue medical tent, where he stayed for several minutes before he departed the tent and walked into the Patriots locker room.
Shortly after Maye walked into the locker room, the Patriots deemed Maye questionable to return.
Maye was limited to just 30% of snaps against the New York Jets in Week 8 after he entered concussion protocol. Maye, however, played the following week and hinted he did not feel as if he suffered a concussion but rather the league’s protocol kept him out.
