A man was engulfed in flames inside one of New York’s busiest rail hubs, just days after a woman was burned alive on a subway car in Brooklyn.

The incident happened at around 8.10pm on Friday at Penn Station located beneath Madison Square Garden in Midtown Manhattan.

Police discovered the victim, aged 67, with ‘serious but not life-threatening’ burns to his body.

His legs and upper body were all covered with wounds from the fire, and he was rushed to hospital, USA Today reported.

The man was transported to Weill Cornell Medical Center and was in stable condition, according to the New York Times.

It remains unconfirmed what caused the fire and whether it was an attack on the victim. No arrests have been made as of yet.

Officers blocked the hallway near the entrance to tracks 11 and 12 at Penn Stations with yellow caution tape.

Police said they were currently reviewing footage from security cameras at the station to confirm what actually happened.

In a post on X, conservative commentator Isabella Maria DeLuca, who has 453,000 followers on the platform, said: ;A person has been set on fire near Penn Station in New York City.

‘This is the second person set on fire at a train station in just a week in NYC. Pure insanity.’

New York has been on edge after a woman, who had been sleeping on the train, was set alight on December 22.

Police are having to identify her through fingerprints, DNA, and surveillance of her movements before the attack.

Footage shared in the aftermath showed a suspect, identified as Sebastian Zapeta-Calil, watching her burn as officers walk by.

The 33-year-old man from Guatemala used a lighter to ignite the clothes of the woman, police said.

He then allegedly used a shirt to fan the fire until she was fully engulfed, the police complaint said.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene after the fire was finally extinguished.
