TOPEKA (KSNT) - A few Topeka locals worked to remove graffiti from a popular park to preserve a piece of its history.
Vandals used spray paint on several signs detailing the history of the Potawatomi Nation earlier this week at Skyline Park in Topeka. John Steflik and his son Alex spent part of their holiday week cleaning the signs near Burnett's Mound.
Both men are members of the Top City Trails Alliance, a non-profit that works to maintain trails and parks in Shawnee County.
"We're always trying to promote our trails here in Shawnee County and it takes a few bad actors to do negative things," said Top City Trails Alliance member Rick Bean. "And you can sit around and talk about it or you can be proactive and come out and take care of the situation and fix it and that's what I think we did."
The alliance said it is planning to do some work on the trails at Skyline Park in January of 2025.
