COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) -- A Georgia-based convenience store and gas station chain has opened its first Ohio store as more are on the way.
RaceTrac's first Buckeye State location opened on Dec. 11 in Findlay near Interstate 75's exit with County Road 99. The company said the 8,100-square-foot convenience store will provide everything needed to refuel for the nearly 75,000 professional drivers, commuters and residents that pass through the area daily.
"RaceTrac's first store in Ohio is a significant milestone for our growing company," said Melanie Isbill, the chain's chief brand officer. "The region's vibrant economy and welcoming communities present a tremendous opportunity for our innovative approach and dedication to delivering convenience that we trust will resonate well with Ohioans."
The grand opening celebration included a ribbon-cutting ceremony with community officials and law enforcement partners. RaceTrac also presented $2,500 checks to both the Findlay High School Marching Band and Findlay Fraternal Order of Police.
The launch of the Findlay location comes as the chain is also readying to build a gas station in Delaware along U.S. 36/State Route 37 at Davidson Lane. The 6,008-square-foot location has been in development for several years and received unanimous approval from Delaware City Council in August 2023, when it was believed the Delaware store could be Ohio's first.
While RaceTrac has yet to announce any additional Ohio locations, Franklin County Auditor's Office records show that the company recently purchased 16 acres at the corner or South High Street and Rathmell Road and 10 acres at Alum Creek Drive north of Rickenbacker Airport.
Headquartered in Atlanta, RaceTrac has been operating since 1934 and has grown to more than 580 locations across states like Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, Texas. Each storefront is stocked with beverages, snacks, Swirl World frozen desserts, coffee and more.
