BROWNSVILLE, Brooklyn (PIX11) – An employee at a homeless shelter in Brooklyn was stabbed and killed on Thursday night, according to police.
The 35-year-old man was stabbed in the neck and abdomen on East New York Avenue around 6:15 p.m., authorities say.
“This is an absolutely horrific tragedy and a tremendous loss to the Department of Homeless Services,” said a spokesperson for the shelter.
“Even though this incident took place outside of the shelter premises, we are working closely with the authorities to support the investigation and ensure the perpetrator is swiftly brought to justice.”
Police say they found the man’s body lying in the lobby of the building. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The man worked for a private shelter and it's unclear if they’re receiving city funding, sources tell PIX11 News.
Investigators are still working to a potential suspect and what may have led up to the incident.
