Tottenham’s injury situation continues to go from bad to worse, with Ange Postecoglou now confirming that one of his centre-backs has suffered a setback in his recovery.
Over the last few weeks, Radu Dragusin was Tottenham’s only fit centre-back, with the Romanian partnering Archie Gray in the heart of Spurs‘ backline.
However, the 22-year-old also went down with an ankle injury in the latter stages of Spurs’ loss at the City Ground on Boxing Day, being forced off.
Postecoglou would have been hoping that the experienced Ben Davies could potentially come back into the side for the clash against Wolves, but it turns out that the Welshman has now suffered a setback.
Postecoglou had declared ahead of Tottenham’s clash against Nottingham Forest that Davies was back in training and was in line to start against Wolves.
However, the Spurs head coach has now confessed that the 32-year-old has suffered another problem in training and is now expected to be out of action for a few more weeks.
When asked if the experienced defender could be fit to play on Sunday, the Australian told Football.London: “No, he’s ruled out. Unfortunately, he had a setback in training and he’s probably out for another couple of weeks. So yeah, he’s gone.”
Tottenham are now without any recognised centre-backs, with Davies, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Radu Dragusin all on the treatment table.
There is a very real possibility that Spurs might start with a centre-back pairing of Yves Bissouma and Archie Gray against Wolves.
The other option would be for Postecoglou to hand a debut to an academy centre-back like Malachi Hardy, which is far from ideal.
