THE MASKED Singer fans are convinced they’ve worked out the identity of Giant Joel, with just days to go until the big reveal.
ITV viewers are eagerly anticipating the upcoming series, set to premiere next Saturday, with Maya Jama joining the panel after months of excitement and speculation.
But, in the meantime, this year’s Christmas special has left them wondering who one mystery crooner is.
Joel Dommett was left stunned when show bosses surprised him with a massive doppelganger costume concealing a beloved celebrity inside.
For yesterday’s festive special, Jennifer Saunders and Dawn French teamed up with regular judges Davina McCall, Jonathan Ross and Mo Gilligan.
The group was tasked with figuring out which celebrities were hiding behind four new Christmas-themed mascots – Star, Christmas Cracker, Turkey Crown and Nutcracker.
While the mystery star performed as Joel on the Boxing Day installment, viewers will have to wait until the new series’ premiere on 4th January to find out who is behind the mask.
The character Giant Joel has piqued the curiosity of fans, with many speculating that it could be Olympic champ Mo Farah.
Taking to X, formerly, Twitter, users have shared their thoughts, with one writing: “Giant Joel mask is Mo Farah, but what’s the link between them 2?”
Another added: “I think Giant Joel is @Mo_Farah!”
Someone else said: “An enjoyable #MaskedSingerUK Christmas special. I think Giant Joel may be Sir Mo Farah.”
One more concluded: “Giant Joel, Mo Farah gets my vote.”
Frankie Goes To Hollywood singer Holly Johnson won yesterday’s episode after he was revealed as the voice of Nutcracker.
Davina McCall came second, stunning the panel by revealing she was hiding in the Star costume.
She managed to fool the panellists, who thought she had sat out the special entirely.
Host Joel even joked earlier in the episode that Davina had been texting him all day saying she had a bad tummy.
But while Davina played a blinder, it wasn’t enough to beat Holly’s Nutcracker.
“I’ve enjoyed performing, I don’t ever have to do panto now,” Holly said after he was unmasked.
He also made a gag about “cracking Joel’s nuts” after playing the Nutcracker.
Frankie Goes to Hollywood sprung onto the scene in 1980.
They were made up of Holly, Paul Rutherford, Mark O’Toole, Brian Nash and Peter Gill.
The group enjoyed such smash hits as Relax and The Power of Love.
Earlier in the special, Josie Gibson was the first to be unmasked as Christmas Cracker.
She commented that the task was “way out of my comfort zone.”
Next to be revealed was Turkey Crown, who was none other than Strictly Star Motsi Mabuse.
But fans will have to wait to find out the identity of Giant Joel.
