The Mark Lamp is a minimalist lamp by the Amsterdam-based designer, Marte Mei. Named after the designer’s friend, who was gifted the original iteration of the wall light, the Mark Lamp reflects Mei’s reverence for materials and her deep connection to nature.
The Mark Lamp is made from thin porcelain plates, with the material’s varying levels of transparency allowing light to illuminate the material in captivating ways. To provide support for the light, an aluminum wall frame cradles the plates, offering a subtle material contrast.
Characterized by its earthy material palette ranging from creamy off-whites to sage greens, the Mark Lamp is available in glazes made from wood ash — a natural glaze that utilizes minerals from ash trees, resulting in an array of colors depending on the nutrients the tree has absorbed.
Each Mark Lamp is available in sizes small through large and is handcrafted in Mei’s studio in Amsterdam, resulting in unique one-off designs. It was publicly launched in 2024 as part of Collectible Design Fair in New York City and has since been exhibited at Nho Girl’s Blow_Shop pop-up in Amsterdam.
