A WOMAN has revealed how she was left feeling like a “terrible mum” due to the presents she got her daughter for Christmas.
Lauren insisted she’d “failed massively” as she’d only bought a few things for her nine-year-old, as she admitted she feels “sad” looking at the haul.
“I’ve seen loads of these videos of what I got my kid for Christmas and I already feel like a s**t mum, so I’m just going to show you why I feel like I’ve failed massively, massively failed this year,” she said in a video on her TikTok page.
“Like it actually makes me sad looking at this pile because I just think like what the f**k?”
She “started off strong” with the word game Tapple, which she said she’d got off TikTok Shop a “while ago”.
Lauren also bought her daughter a “cheap and cheerful” 150 piece art set from TikTok.
On the clothes front, she’d bought two co-ord sets from Zara, which had been in the sale, as well as two beanie hats, some pyjamas for Christmas Eve, some socks and a pack of hair bobbles.
She concluded the present rundown with a kids’ camera and thermal printer from TikTok Shop, and a Stanley cup dupe from Primark for £6.
“I actually think is quite a lot considering Aldi do them for like £3 which I only saw after I’d already bought this,” Lauren added.
“I was a bit annoyed!”
Concluding, she sighed: “That is literally it and I feel awful about it.”
“This year is not the one… here’s what i got my 9 year old for Christmas,” Lauren captioned the video, alongside hashtags such as #costofliving.
Despite her honest post, Lauren faced backlash from some people – one of whom hit out at her “sob story”.
Admitting the remark had “rattled” her, she responded in another video, as she explained she’d been trying to deal with a broken car in December – which is also the month of her daughter’s birthday.
“Literally it all happened all at once and that is the reality of what goes on in my life,” she sighed.
“I posted a video and it was basically like, if you could just interact with this video by the end of January when my MOT is due, TikTok could potentially help pay for my MOT.
“Now, in the comment it says it seems that she’s done a sob story of a Christmas haul and it’s all fake and blah blah blah.
“And I’m literally like, if you think that’s a sob story, then that’s just the reality of my life.
“So all that means to me is that my life is a sob story.”
Lauren went on to insist she didn’t post the original video “for the attention”, and had no idea it would attract the viewers it has.
“I never posted that for a sob story or to plead poverty,” she continued.
“Like, I actually don’t feel like I’m pleading poverty at all. I feel like I’m very, very fortunate in my life.
“I posted the video because I am who I am and I try in every single scenario to be as real as I possibly can be.
“And that was a real life, real time feeling that I was experiencing at that moment.
“So yeah, if you think that the Christmas haul was a sob story because I need to fix my car, no, my whole life is just falling to pieces one thing at a time.
“So that’s where we’re at!”
And she found herself inundated with messages of support in the comments section of that video.
“Lauren, you don’t need to explain yourself to anyone,” one wrote.
“Too many people quick to attack genuine people on social media.
“They are just jealous of you. Keep smashing life girl!”
“I admire you as a single mum striving to survive,” another praised.
“Take no notice and don’t take them to heart.”
“Your video was very relatable!” a third insisted.
“A lot of mums I’m sure felt the exact same way you did as things are expensive, life is expensive and as the kids get older, the gifts get more expensive but look less.”
