It concerned the character Smithy’s (James Corden) full, real name being unveiled.
Writing on a Reddit forum, a fan said: “I noticed that Smithy’s full name at his wedding was revealed to be Neil Noel Edmund Smith.
“But that’s supposed to be Neil, the Baby’s name (named after Noel from Hear’Say and Smithy’s grandad Edmund).
“Not criticising Ruth & James for what is an incredibly minor nitpick, more a realisation that I probably watch the show too much.”
A second viewer commented: “That is a pretty big oversight to be fair – well spotted.”
A third added: “I noticed that too.
“My head explanation was that he changed his name to match Neil The Baby because I’d rather not just have a dumb plothole.”
A fourth chimed in: “But the tradition in Smithy’s family is the son is named Neil too – so potentially Smithy could have the same names as his son.”
Another speculated: “I think it was supposed to be a reveal. Smithys middle name is Noel Edmond and by sheer coincidence, so is Neil the baby’s.
“Like how they both ended up being called Neil, in the first place.
“Smithy is probably too embarrassed to mention it when he’s younger and it also explains why he got so defensive at the Christening when people were saying he’d called his son Noel Edmonds.”
The finale episode dropped a big twist in the opening minutes – following the show’s cliffhanger from five years ago.
It was revealed Smithy left Nessa’s proposal unanswered after Gavin (Mathew Horne) interrupted the moment.
He instead proposed to obnoxious girlfriend Sonia (Laura Aikman).
With the news that the show is set to make an exciting return to screens, let's take a look at some of the comedy programme's biggest and best moments...
Smithy’s loved ones intervened at the wedding, telling him the marriage wasn’t right.
Realising he loved Nessa, the characters raced to Southampton to stop her heading out to sea.
After catching Nessa in time, Smithy proposed and viewers saw the pair finally marry.
