GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Former Central Michigan University quarterback Tommy Lazzaro has died after a hunting accident.
CMU sports broadcaster Adam Jaksa broke the news Tuesday night, calling it, “heartbreaking news for the CMU football community.”
According to an online obituary, Lazzaro died on Dec. 22. He was 27 years old.
Lazzaro played four seasons in Mount Pleasant, starting five games as a junior in 2018 and playing in 13 games as a senior. He was part of the 2019 team that went 8-6 and fell to Miami of Ohio in the Mid-American Conference championship game.
After his football career, Lazzaro enrolled in the U.S. Army where he made the rank of sergeant.
A celebration of life is scheduled to be held Saturday in Fort Walton Beach, Florida.
