A WOMAN was killed in a horror Christmas Day crash as cops arrest a man for “dangerous driving”.
Tragedy struck on the A1, near Darlington, between Junctions 57 and 58, shortly after 8.30pm.
The fatal smash involved a white Ford Fiesta and a black Volkswagen Tiguan, cops said.
North Yorkshire Police confirmed a woman in her 80s, who was a passenger in the Ford Fiesta, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
Emergency services also rushed the driver, a man in his 80s, to hospital.
He is now in a serious but stable condition.
The Volkswagen driver, a man in his 20s, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
He has been released under investigation while enquiries continue.
The motorway was closed until around 8am today for collision investigation teams and National Highways.
It has now re-opened again in both directions but a lane closure is still in place.
