Several instructions from India skipper Rohit Sharma were caught on the stump mic during the first day of the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne. On one such occasion, Rohit was seen instructing Yashasvi Jaiswal on how to position himself in the silly point region. However, one particular incident left Rohit unimpressed with Jaiswal’s fielding.
On one ball defended by Australia’s Steve Smith, Jaiswal could be seen jumping and reacting to the batter’s shot. This prompted Rohit to express anger on Jaiswal for his unnecessary reaction.
“Jaisu (Yashasvi Jaiswal), do you think you’re playing gully cricket?” Rohit was caught saying on the stump mic. “Stay sat on the ground. As long as he does not play, you don’t get up,” Rohit added.
Meanwhile, Australia batters dominated throughout the first 2 sessions on the first day of the Melbourne Test. A total of 4 batters scored half-centuries for the Baggy Greens namely – Sam Konstas, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith.
In the final session, India pacer Jasprit Bumrah once again rose to the occasion and kept India into the game by picking up the big wickets of Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh. Australia ended the day on 311/6 with Smith unbeaten on 68 and skipper Pat Cummins unbeaten on 8.
