Zimbabwe are set to host their first-ever Boxing Day Test match in 38 years when they take on newcomers Afghanistan in the first Test of the two-match series beginning at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo from Thursday. It will be Afghanistan’s first Test of the year since the washed-out encounter against New Zealand in Greater Noida.
The home side will see the debut of Ben Curran, the third brother of England all-rounders Sam Curran and Tom Curran and son of former Zimbabwe all-rounder Kevin Curran. He is the leading run-scorer in Zimbabwe’s Logan Cup where he is averaging over 74 with two centuries and two fifties.
Afghanistan, on the other hand, could hand a Test debut to 18-year-old spin bowler Allah Ghazanfar – who was picked up by Mumbai Indians for Rs 4.8 crore at the IPL 2025 Mega Auction last month. Ghazanfar has an amazing T20 average of 11.62 and an ODI average of 13.57.
Zimbabwe, though, have not won a Test match since April 2001 at Bulawayo. They have also lost six out of their last 7 Tests with one ending in a draw.
A historic occasion for Zimbabwe as they host Afghanistan in their first home Boxing Day Test in 28 years!
