Australia batter Sam Konstas, who made his international debut with the Boxing Day Test against India in Melbourne impressed everyone with a fine knock. Konstas replaced Nathan McSweeney in Australia’s playing XI and showed exactly why selectors made a brave call of adding him to the team.
The 19-year-old played a valuable knock of 60 runs from 65 deliveries to provide Australia with a great start alongside Usman Khawaja. Konstas scored 6 boundaries and 2 sixes in his impressive knock both coming off India pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah.
The debutant dismantled Bumrah in the seamer’s fourth over by smashing him for 2 boundaries and a six, picking up 16 runs off the 6 deliveries. It was the first six the Indian pacer conceded in Test cricket in nearly 4 years. Most of the boundaries that Konstas hit came in the form of ramp shots.
Konstas also became the first Australia batter to hit Bumrah for a six in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar series. While most of the senior players from his side have struggled against the Indian pacer, the 19-year-old showed a new way by which Bumrah can be tackled.
Konstas’ entertaining innings was put to an end by veteran India spinner Ravindra Jadeja by trapping him leg-before in the 20th over.
