It’s surely happened before, but this is the first year we can recall that Christmas and Hannukah fall on the same day (or rather Hanukkah starts on the 25th).
We’d like to just take a minute to wish all who observe either sacred occasion a wonderful and reflective holiday.
Both Christmas and Hanukkah are serious occasions. It’s somewhat arbitrary since we don't think anyone really knows, but December 25th is the birthdate generally assigned to Jesus and Hanukkah marks the rededication of the second Temple after the Maccabean Revolt. The eight candles in the Menorah reflect the miraculous long-lasting oil that was expected to last just a single day (as best we understand it anyway).
You don’t need to look long to understand that the world is in turmoil today. Our wish for everyone is that we all find a way to live in peace and harmony. It seems like a long shot right now, but even in the worst of times we have to pray for the best.
So Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah to everyone who observes. Let’s hope 2025 is a happier year for all. Thanks for hanging out here!
