Last-minute holiday rush: Shoppers flood Downtown Brooklyn's Fulton Mall

BROOKLYN, N.Y. (PIX11) -- As Christmas Eve descended upon New York City, Downtown Brooklyn's Fulton Mall became a hive of activity. With just hours left until Christmas Day, the area was charged with excitement as shoppers rushed to find those perfect last-minute gifts.

Crowds filled the mall, their hands and carts brimming with gifts as they completed or, in some cases, began their holiday shopping. The bustling atmosphere reflected the urgency of last-minute gift-seekers eager to wrap up their purchases before the festivities began.

Brooklyn resident Shaella Shelton navigated the bustling crowds with strategic precision. "Have a plan, have a list before heading out the house so you can be in and out," she advised fellow shoppers. Shelton, shopping with her two daughters, focused on carefully selected gifts. "Just little items for my daughters. They chose each other so she went Christmas shopping for her big sis and we're about to wrap it up and head home," she explained.

Her daughter chimed in with her own holiday wishlist: "I like blankets, pillows. I need more and my crotchet and a little bit of toys."

Other shoppers felt the pressure of the clock ticking down. One shopper shared, "Anything counts, try to make it work whatever you got. Even if you have a dollar, go buy a dollar card. That's what I'm doing." Another exclaimed, "I'm getting some jewelry, some kicks, a plane ticket. Flying out of here, all this snow, it's too much."

Some retailers offered significant discounts to attract last-minute shoppers. One savvy shopper explained, "I traded my Target gift card for this because this is for me and my friend because this is cute to me."

When asked about shopping on Christmas Eve, one self-proclaimed "extra mom" admitted, "It's never enough, like I just always have to do the most."

As the holiday shopping rush reached its peak, Shelton noted they were nearly finished: "We're almost done shopping we're just looking for one more item."

With the clock ticking down, shoppers rushed past crowded storefronts, eager to find that special gift to make their holidays memorable. One hurried shopper summed up the day's energy perfectly: "To run, because it's Christmas Eve. And I'm hurrying so bye..."
