While the Tottenham players are fully behind Ange Postecoglou, some in the dressing room do have one concern about his approach.
Postecoglou‘s system has repeatedly been questioned since he arrived at Tottenham 18 months ago, with many feeling that it is too open.
Predictably, those criticisms have only intensified after Spurs conceded six to Liverpool on Sunday, with many pundits continuing to suggest that the Australian has to adapt if he is to succeed in the Premier League.
The Daily Mail have now revealed that Postecoglou still retains the support of the Tottenham squad, who are all fully behind him.
However, one source inside the club claims that some players do have concerns about his system and wonder if the Australian could sometimes switch things up.
The source is quoted as saying: “The players like and respect him [Ange]. It’s not like with Conte or Mourinho. There is no clash, and his style of play is more nuanced than the outside world sees. But some players do wonder if it’s too open sometimes, that maybe he could switch it up occasionally.”
It is clear by now that despite the noise coming from the outside, Postecoglou is not one to change his ways, with the 59-year-old being extremely wedded to this high-intensity, front-foot style of play.
The Mail have dug up an old quote where Postecoglou once confesses that he changed his methods when he was managing Australia’s Under 20s in 2007, with the Spurs boss vowing to never repeat the same mistake.
He says in that interview: “It was the only time I thought too much about job preservation. I compromised. The lesson I learned was I could never be successful if I did that.
“When I left I said to myself, ‘No one will tell me what to do anymore. Nobody’s gonna put me in a box’. Basically, I don’t give a s*** what people think about me anymore.”
