Patriots wideout Kayshon Boutte was feeling himself after the best game of his NFL career to date.
Boutte established new personal bests in catches (five), targets (seven) and receiving yards (95) in New England’s Week 16 loss to Buffalo. The second-year receiver also was partly responsible for the contest’s opening score — a beautiful 28-yard connection with rookie quarterback Drake Maye.
The 22-year-old celebrated his impressive performance on social media after the game when he posted five photos from Highmark Stadium and a video of the aforementioned score to Instagram. Boutte also shared a meme inspired by “The Simpsons” that portrayed a supreme level of confidence.
“These (expletive) ain’t stopping me,” the meme shows repeatedly.
Athletes shouldn’t be knocked too much for hyping themselves up, but that’s quite a stance from a player who before Sunday never had more than four catches or 59 yards in a single game. The highlight with Maye also marked only the second touchdown of Boutte’s career.
To be fair, Boutte entered the NFL behind the eight-ball. The Patriots were a complete dumpster fire last season and their quarterback situation was disastrous. But despite what Boutte’s social media message stated, the jury still is very much out as to whether the LSU product is a legitimate pro receiver.
